‘Shrek,’ ‘Addams’ to headline Broadway Series

LIMA — Big shows will be coming to Lima this year.

The Veterans Memorial Civic Center announced its Broadway Series for the 2024-25 season Thursday, and “Shrek the Musical” and “The Addams Family” are among the titles set to grace the stage.

“We are thrilled to present four of Broadway’s biggest hits and award winners in our upcoming Broadway in Crouse Hall 2024-25 Series, all brand new to Lima,” Civic Center CEO Abe Ambroza said in a press release. “We work hard to bring these new Broadway shows to Lima as soon as they are available, with two of these national tours making single-night stops for the first time.”

“Shrek,” set for Oct. 13, and “The Addams Family,” scheduled for April 16, 2025, will be joined by “Ain’t Too Proud — The Life and Times of the Temptations” on Nov. 12 and “Dear Evan Hansen” on March 23, 2025, at the Civic Center.

The Civic Center reveals the upcoming Broadway season at a gala every spring, but this year it delayed the gala to serve as a 40th anniversary celebration in October.

“The Foundation’s Broadway in Crouse Hall has built a reputation for bringing impressive musicals to Lima and will continue that legacy as we celebrate the VMCCC’s 40th anniversary ,” said Carmen Cecala-Wells, director of development for the Civic Center, in the statement. “Subscribers will be dazzled by these amazing productions about legends and icons.”

Ambroza said in April that the season reveal would take place over social media.

“We’re working on one contract, and then we’ll announce everything on social and do some things to get that out to people,” he said at the time. “Subscriptions and tickets will go on sale shortly after that.”
