Emerging businesses set to be awarded

LIMA — The annual Lima/Allen County Chamber Awards gala will soon honor several businesses and leaders in the area. One area of the seven is the “Emerging Business of the Year.” The award is sponsored by State Bank.

“To be considered for the Emerging Business Award, the nominees must meet the following criteria: independently owned and operated, operation history between 18 months and four years,” said Senior Vice President of State Bank Andy Farler. “The business should exemplify unique business ideas and a unique marketing approach or management style that has contributed to its growth and success.”

Red Fox Boutique, A&P’s Beauty Select and Steady Does It Mechanical Services LLC were the finalists for this year’s award nominees.

“The business must establish its transition from startup to emerging by documenting the increase in sales or operational proper profitability, the introduction of unique or innovative products, job creation and other indicators within its industry and in the community,” Farler said. “The business principle must demonstrate community involvement and/or civic contributions and the number of employees must range between one and 150.”

Lori Jackson is the owner of Red Fox Boutique. Ashley Penwell is the owner of A&P’s Beauty Select. Christopher Henderson is the owner of Steady Does It Mechanical Services LLC.

Red Fox Boutique began in Jackson’s home in 2022. The business now has a store and supports local organizations including 4-H, Perry Local Schools Volleyball Donation and more.

A&P’s Beauty Select is a hair salon that began in a 1972 camper. The company has grown from having 30 clients to around 300. The business gives back by supporting other organizations including various charity events, sporting events and more.

Steady Does it Mechanical Services LLC began in Henderson’s home as well. The company was inspired to aid in addressing “unsanitary” conditions for those who cannot afford the service. The business has also supported and partnered with other organizations including Habitat for Humanity and My Brother’s Keeper.

The gala will be held from 5:30 until 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 1 at the UNOH Event Center, 1450 N. Cable Road.
