Rhodes names Yale resident as alumni of the year

LIMA — Rhodes State College honored nursing graduate Dr. Nicholas Pratt with the college’s outstanding alumni award.

Pratt is one of the nation’s few physicians who graduated from nursing and medical school, according to a press release from Rhodes State.

The Connecticut resident graduated from Rhodes in 2014, later earning two bachelor’s degrees from The Ohio State University and Cleveland State University and a medical degree from Northeast Ohio Medical University.

Pratt is now a psychiatry resident at Yale University.

He began his medical career as a patient care technician for Lima Memorial Health System’s cardiac intervention unit, returning to LMHS two years later as a registered critical care nurse before leaving for medical school.

“My time at Rhodes State College has tremendously impacted my personal and professional life,” Pratt said in the release. “I would characterize it as my most impactful academic experience.

“It provided me with real-world experience, ignited my passion for the healing arts and kickstarted my career.”

Rhodes inducted Pratt into its alumni circle of excellence.

This year’s other inductees include:

• Richard Kortokrax, banking community president for Huntington National Bank

• E. Warren Pughsley, fire inspector for the Lima Fire Department and U.S. Army veteran

• Melissa States, preschool intervention specialist for the Allen County Educational Service Center

• Ezekial Wiechart, program director of respiratory care for Edison State Community College

A formal ceremony celebrating Pratt and the other inductees will be held at 5:30 p.m. Friday, May 3, in the Keese Hall Multipurpose Center at Rhodes State College, 4240 Campus Drive, Lima.
