Envirothon returns to Allen County

LIMA — Two-hundred and fifteen area high schoolers will compete in a series of scientific challenges when the Northwest Ohio Area 1 Envirothon returns to Allen County next week.

The contest will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, at The Ohio State University-Lima and Rhodes State College campus, 4240 Campus Drive, Lima.

This year’s theme is “Renewable Energy for a Sustainable Future,” featuring wildlife, forestry, aquatic and soil challenges, which will take place in and around the OSU-Lima regenerative farm and prairie, as well as the Tecumseh Natural Area, according to a press release about the contest.

Registration and orientation will take place in the northwest corner of lot C near the Student Services Center, while lunch and awards will be in the Cook Hall Gym.

Area 1 includes schools from Allen, Auglaize, Crawford, Defiance, Fulton, Hancock, Hardin, Henry, Lucas, Marion, Morrow, Ottawa, Paulding, Putnam, Sandusky, Seneca, Van Wert, Williams, Wood and Wyandot counties.

This is the first time the contest will be held in Allen County since the early 1990s.

10:40-11:15 a.m. Session 3

11:20-11:55 a.m. Session 4

Noon to 12:45 p.m. Lunch in Cook Hall Gym

12:45 to 1 p.m. Awards in Cook Hall Gym

Winners will advance to the state competition.
