Lima man offered plea deal

LIMA — A Lima man was offered a plea deal Monday in the Allen County Common Pleas Court on assault and firearm charges.

Dewayne Carter Jr., 43, faces two charges of felonious assault, second-degree felonies, one of which has a three-year firearm specification; illegal possession of a firearm in a liquor permit premises, a third-degree felony; two counts of having weapons while under disability, a third-degree felony; and carrying a concealed weapon, a fourth-degree felony.

If Carter accepts the plea deal, he would plead guilty to attempted assault, a third-degree felony; illegal possession of a firearm in a liquor permit premises, a third-degree felony; having weapons while under disability, a third-degree felony; and a second-degree felonious assault charge with the firearm specification. The prosecution would make no sentencing recommendations. The offer expires Nov. 22.

Some of the charges stem from a Jan. 12 incident. According to court documents, Lima police went to the Bite & Buzz parking lot at 701 S. Main St. on a report of a shooting. Police found a male in the parking lot with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds on the right side of his face and his inner right thigh and a broken jaw. Carter had fled the scene and was not located. The victim said he knew Carter, adding that the altercation centered around Carter’s wife.
