Celina dispute ends with man shot

CELINA — A domestic disturbance in Celina around 1:30 a.m. Sunday resulted in a man being shot in the back.

According to a news release from Celina police, officers responded to 641 N. Sugar St. and found Christopher Mangus, 25, on the ground in front of the house with a gunshot wound.

A witness identified Samuel Paul, 49, as the shooter. Paul is Mangus’s step-father-in-law.

The release said after a prior dispute at the residence, Mangus left with his children. He returned with the witness to retrieve his children’s items. The witness heard yelling and was at the front door when Paul reached around him to shoot Mangus in the back as he was leaving.

Mangus was taken to Mercer Health then flown to a Dayton hospital, where he underwent surgery for life-threatening injuries. His condition is unknown.

Paul is being held in the Mercer County Jail on felonious assault, a first-degree felony.
