Lima man sentenced to 11 years minimum for cocaine possession

LIMA — A Lima man was sentenced to a minimum of 11 years in prison Thursday after pleading guilty in September to a first-degree felony count of cocaine possession with major drug offender, gun and money forfeiture specifications.

It was required for Titus Brown to receive 11 years in prison because of the major drug offender specification in Allen County Common Pleas Court.

Brown was also fined $20,000, but the fine was waived because he didn’t have the resources to pay it.

Brown’s attorney, Assistant Public Defender Stephen Chamberlain, said Brown, 48, has no prior record except for a charge of operating a motor vehicle while impaired.

“He made a major error in his life for possessing this amount of cocaine in his house,” Chamberlain said, referencing the more than 700 grams of cocaine found during a search at 612 Marian Ave. in April. “I don’t think he’s going to have issues with this court or any other court ever again.”

Brown took his opportunity to speak before sentencing to apologize to his family, saying this incident doesn’t define who he is.

A firearm and $1,282 also found in the search were forfeited.
