Roses and Thorns

The roses are still peaking through the thorns these days.

Rose: To Perry Township, for having some difficult conversations about development in the future. We’re disappointed the Microsoft data center project isn’t heading to Lima’s east, but we’re pleased that the zoning has been updated to include data centers in the future. We have no doubt another company will see this area is primed for tech jobs.

Thorn: To Bailey Luckett, of Lima, who’s accused of stopping her car in front of a semi-truck on Interstate 75 to confront its driver. David Shutt, 44, of Lima, was driving in another car that rear-ended the semi and killed Shutt. It’s a good reminder not to let your road rage turn deadly.

Rose: To SpartanNash, which expanded its grocery store offerings with the purchase of the corporation behind local supermarkets such as Chief, Community Market and Save a Lot. We look forward to seeing your efforts to maintain these local grocers. You’ve been a good member of the community with your distribution facilities in Lima, and we expect more of a great thing with you.
