COLUMBUS GROVE — Lauryn Auchmuty, the recently named unanimous player of the year in the Northwest Conference, celebrated that accomplishment on Tuesday night with a hat trick, leading to Columbus Grove’s 6-0 opening-round win over Ada.
Columbus Grove (15-1-2) scored three times in each half to eliminate Ada and move on to a district semifinal matchup next week with Mansfield Christian, a team that was victorious over Ashland Crestview 7-0 in its sectional final.
The game is set to kick off at 5 p.m. on Monday at Bluffton’s Steinmetz Field.
Ada ended its season with a record of 10-8-0.
On Tuesday, Auchmuy netted the game’s first two goals within seven minutes of one another, the first at the 28:59 mark after receiving a pinpoint pass from Ella Dotson and the second on a chip shot over the head of Ada keeper Emily Gibson with 22:04 left in the half.
Columbus Grove fired 15 shots on goal, nine of which were saved by Gibson.
Ada had just four shots on goal, all saved by Columbus Grove keeper Erianne Heffner.
In the second half, Auchmuty traded places with Dotson, serving a perfectly placed pass into the center of the box which Dotson sent into the back of the net with 36:50 left.
Auchmuty proceeded to sink a left-footed kick at the 31:04 mark to complete the hat trick and Lauryn Halker scored Columbus Grove’s sixth goal just before the final whistle with 3:50 left.
Columbus Grove finished the game without a corner kick, two free kicks and eight goal kicks.
Ada’s most promising scoring chance came in the final two minutes of the game on a pair of corner kicks. The Bulldogs finished the night with two free kicks and eight goal kicks.
