Bath schools investigates multiple threats

BATH TOWNSHIP — Two students were taken into custody Tuesday following an alleged threat directed to Bath Middle School, according to a news release from Bath schools.

School officials contacted the Allen County Sheriff’s Office around 3:50 p.m. Tuesday to investigate the alleged threat. The two juveniles were taken into custody the same evening, according to a release from the sheriff’s office.

Bath schools notified parents later that evening via email.

School officials and law enforcement concluded there was “no reason to believe the school is in danger,” according to the release from Bath schools.

The sheriff’s office provided extra patrols to Bath on Wednesday as a precautionary measure, according to the release.

“The safety of students and staff is always our first area of concern, and we will continue to work with law enforcement as needed in similar situations,” school officials said in the news release.

School officials did not disclose the exact nature of the alleged threat from Tuesday due to an ongoing investigation. It is unclear whether either student taken into custody could face criminal charges.

A second threat directed at Bath students and staff occurred Thursday afternoon when several students witnessed another student make a threatening gesture, according to a news release the district sent to parents.

The incident was captured by security cameras reviewed by the school resource officer, according to the release.

The sheriff’s office dispatched additional deputies to the school as a precautionary measure, and Sheriff Matt Treglia and Bath Superintendent Mike Estes have been in direct communication about the situation, according to the release.

The student involved in Thursday’s incident is expected to transfer to another school district Friday, though the sheriff’s office is working to notify the district, according to the release.
