More information released in Perry Township murder case

LIMA — Court documents revealed more information about a Perry Township shooting that left one person dead Sept. 17.

According to a report written by Allen County Sheriff’s Det. Jared Breitigan, Jacob Striff, 23, and Jeffrey Paxton Jr., 41, were brothers. Their mother, Lisa Striff, called 911 to report Paxton had been shot in the neck at 1820 Charledon Ave.

Striff then took the phone and told dispatch he shot Paxton three times because Paxton was trying to attack him with a screwdriver. Striff was taken into custody without incident.

In an interview with sheriff’s detectives, Striff said he was complaining to his mother about his brother, and Paxton said they could fight about it. Striff said Paxton began to quickly walk toward him with a screwdriver, so he tried to shoot at Paxton’s legs in self-defense. After the shooting, Striff said his mother moved the screwdriver to a table in the kitchen.

Lisa Striff was interviewed and said she didn’t recall seeing Paxton with a screwdriver and denied touching or moving it.

Striff is being held on a $750,000 cash or surety bond on a charge of murder. The case has been transferred from municipal court to common pleas court and is waiting on review from a grand jury.
