Hobby Lobby opens doors in St. Marys

ST MARYS — Customers lined up at the entrance of a new crafts store Monday, eagerly waiting to be the first shoppers.

Hobby Lobby, located at 1286 Indiana Ave. in St. Marys Square, is an arts, crafts, and home decor store. It celebrated the grand opening of its new location.

St. Marys resident Deb McDermitt could hardly contain her excitement when speaking about the new store.

“I always had to go to Lima. I am so tickled that it’s here because I only live a half-mile away,” she said. “This is really handy for me.”

McDermitt doesn’t label herself as crafty, but she is looking into starting a new hobby.

“Now that I’m retired, I like to do a little bit of everything. I’m interested in needle-felting,” she said.

Only just beginning her shopping, McDermitt was on the other side of the store checking random items out before looking for needle-felting supplies.

“I love the store. I’m stopping past aisles, just picking up odds and ends. I’m tickled they’re here, and I’m going to keep coming,” she said.

Store represented said they weren’t authorized to speak to the media.

The store moved into the spot formerly used by Celina Tent, which moved its equipment to its expanded Celina facility.

The same excitement can be shown by St. Mary’s Square. Janice Grieshop, St. Marys Square organization manager, is expecting big things for Hobby Lobby.

“The intersection of State Road 29 and Highway 33 has a great deal of purchasing power because of its proximity,” Grieshop said.

She said Hobby Lobby adds to a long list of locations in the complex. In June, the complex announced Grocery Outlet Bargain Market was scheduled to open in July 2025.

“Home to around 20 different businesses, Hobby Lobby is a great addition to the complex adding to its diversity of businesses,” Grieshop said.
