Preliminary hearing set for accused killer

LIMA — A preliminary hearing has been scheduled in Lima Municipal Court for the man charged in a Perry Township shooting that left one person dead on Tuesday.

Jacob Striff, 23, is being held under a $750,000 cash or surety bond on a charge of murder in connection to the shooting death of Jeffery Scott Paxton Jr. A probable cause hearing will be held in municipal court at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 26.

According to limited information released by the Allen County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded Tuesday afternoon to a report of shots fired at 1820 Charledon Ave. in Perry Township. Upon their arrival deputies discovered Paxton, 41, of Lima, suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to Lima Memorial Health System, where he was pronounced deceased.

Striff was taken into custody without incident. The investigation is ongoing, according to the Allen County Sheriff’s Office.
