Victim, suspect identified in Perry Township shooting death

LIMA — A Lima man is being held without bond in the Allen County jail as a suspect in a Tuesday altercation that left one person dead.

Jacob Striff, 23, is being held on a preliminary charge of murder in the death of Jeffery Scott Paxton Jr.

According to limited information released by the Allen County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded Tuesday afternoon to a report of shots fired. They learned a fight took place at 1820 Charledon Ave. in Perry Township.

Upon their arrival, deputies discovered Paxton, 41, of Lima, suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to Lima Memorial Health System, where he was pronounced deceased.

Striff was taken into custody without incident and was booked into the Allen County Jail on a murder charge.

The Lucas County Coroner’s Office will perform an autopsy. The investigation is ongoing, according to an updated release from the sheriff’s office.
