‘A fortunate accident’: Ev’Dera Bath and Body plans grand re-opening

LIMA — Ev’Dera Bath and Body, a local business known for its high-quality soaps, waxes and candles, is set to celebrate a grand re-opening at its new space from 1 to 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20 on the second floor of the Central District, 207 S. Central Ave., Lima.

The event marks a significant milestone for the business, which has grown from a small pop-up soap venture with a lone employee into a thriving hub for local creators.

Owner Michael Thompson, who originally started Ev’Dera to help a friend, reflected on the journey that brought him to this point.

“Two years ago, I wouldn’t have imagined being here. It was a fortunate accident how it started,” he said.

Thompson’s return to Lima about 2 1/2 5 years ago was motivated by a desire to care for his parents while maintaining a full-time job. He was introduced to Tracy Sanchez, owner of the Central District, and he introduced her to his soaps. Sanchez quickly shared the idea with Thompson of joining the Central District.

“At first I didn’t want to. I was enjoying attending popping-up and attending vendor shows and festivals,” Thompson said.

Not much later, Sanchez invited Thompson to pop up at the Central District. When Thompson agreed and had a pop-up, business thrived. What started as a brief appearance turned into a lasting presence, as Thompson recognized the potential of the vibrant community. This led to Ev’Dera officially operating out of the Central District on the first floor.

The business specializes in natural and organic blends of soaps, salts, body washes and other wellness and care products.

In May 2024, Thompson and his staff decided to expand to a larger space upstairs on the second floor. By the end of the month, they were moved out and working diligently to prepare for the re-opening.

“We had to take this spot once it came open. If I didn’t, I knew someone else would,” Thompson said about the move.

Thompson’s short-term goal is a successful grand re-opening, while his mid-term objectives include expanding the business, developing a model to support local creators and fostering a strong community presence. Long-term, he envisions opening additional stores.

“I want to thank Lima and all the people who have supported us so far. We’re not going to be here if it’s not for them,” Thompson said.
