Airports in Lima, Van Wert, Findlay awarded federal dollars

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration has awarded investments totaling more than $14 million to seven airports in Northwest Ohio, including facilities in Allen and Van Wert counties, according to an announcement Wednesday by U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio.

The money is administered through the FAA’s Airport Improvement Program.

The Lima-Allen County Regional Airport has been granted $1,170,428 to rehabilitate 7,160 feet of the existing paved Taxiway A and 300 feet of the existing paved Taxiway A2, to maintain the structural integrity of the pavement and to minimize debris to extend their useful lives.

Lima-Allen County Regional Airport manager Josh Tattrie could not be reached for comment on Wednesday.

More than $1 million was awarded to the Van Wert County Regional Airport to reconstruct existing lighting and the runway end identifier lights system at both ends of an existing runway that has reached the end of its useful life and to construct a new lighting vault building with equipment to bring the airport into conformity with current standards.

Additionally. the Findlay Airport will receive $4,793,050 to rehabilitate existing lighting on a runway, repair 5,883 feet of paved runway and shift the existing paved taxiway turnaround to bring the airport into conformity with current standards.
