RECOVERY TOWNSHIP — A fatal crash involving a car hitting a golf cart occurred around 7:30 p.m. Thursday on Philothea Road, west of Township Line Road in Mercer County.
According to a news release from Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey, Michael L. Hatcher, 69, of Fort Recovery, was driving a golf cart traveling westbound on Philothea Road, and Caleb Wendel, 17, of Coldwater, was driving in a car behind him. Wendel failed to see Hatcher and rear-ended him. Hatcher was transported by St. Henry EMS to Mercer Health where he was later pronounced dead.
The Mercer County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Team was called to the scene. The crash is under investigation and will be forwarded to the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
