Lima man pleads not guilty to assault

LIMA — A Lima man pleaded not guilty Monday in Allen County Common Pleas Court on three counts of felonious assault.

In addition to the three second-degree felony assault charges, the charges also have firearm and weapon forfeiture specifications.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred around 12:45 a.m. June 12. Court documents include a narrative from police that said James Martin, 26, allegedly shot at a vehicle on East Market Street after he and his girlfriend had an argument. Martin’s son was in the vehicle.

Three bullets struck the rear passenger side of the car, and one bullet went into the rear bumper. No one was injured. Martin admitted to shooting but said he was aiming at the ground.

Martin is currently being held in the Allen County Jail on a $250,000 cash bond.
