Two seriously injured after all-terrain vehicle hits tree

PAULDING COUNTY — A Convoy woman and Paulding man suffered serious injuries early Sunday after their all-terrain vehicle struck a tree.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Van Wert post went to the scene on county Road 177 west of county Road 171 in Brown Township in Paulding County at approximately 1 a.m. Sunday, according to a press release from the highway patrol.

Savannah Ridgway, 24, of Convoy, drove a Polaris RZP-XP1000 west on county Road 117. She also had a passenger, 23-year-old Western Phlipot, of Paulding. The Polaris went off the right side of the road and struck a tree.

A medical helicopter flew Ridgway to St. Vincent’s Hospital, Toledo. Another helicopter transported Phlipot to Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.

Alcohol was believed to be a factor in the crash, and safety belts weren’t used, according to the highway patrol. The crash remains under investigation.
