Ottawa man sentenced to jail for attempted sexual conduct with minor

BOWLING GREEN — An Ottawa man was sentenced to 180 days in jail with five years of probation in Wood County Common Pleas Court on Aug. 15 after attempting to have sexual conduct with a 12-year-old online who was actually an undercover officer.

Neil Diemer, 54, pleaded guilty in June to importuning, a third-degree felony; and disseminating matter harmful to juveniles and possessing criminal tools, both fifth-degree felonies. A charge of attempted rape was dismissed.

Court documents said on or about Sept. 8, 2023, Diemer groomed an undercover officer online when the officer told Diemer he was 12 years old. The officer and Diemer had sexual conversations, and Diemer shared sexual photographs and a video of himself before planning to pick up the juvenile in his truck in Wood County.

According to the Bowling Green Sentinel-Tribune, defense attorney Scott Coon said Diemer had no prior criminal record and expressed remorse over how it affected his family and community.

“He’s been ostracized by his neighbors and friends” and had to move and lost his job, Coon said.

“I take full responsibility for what I did,” Diemer said. “I’m embarrassed, I’m ashamed, and it basically ruined my life.”

Diemer will be registered as a tier I sex offender and will need to verify his information annually for 15 years. He can’t use electronic devices with access to the internet and is not allowed to have unsupervised contact with minors. His 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 pickup truck valued at $50,000-$60,000 will also be forfeited.
