Springfield man sentenced to 22 years prison for drug trafficking

LIMA — A Springfield man was sentenced to a minimum of 22 years in prison Monday in Allen County Common Pleas Court after bringing narcotics from Dayton to Lima.

Dayron McComb, 35, pleaded guilty in May to cocaine trafficking, aggravated drug trafficking and engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity, all of which are first-degree felonies. The major drug offender and forfeiture of $19,873 specifications in the first two counts remained in the plea deal, while the firearm specifications and one count of having weapons under disability were dismissed.

A fine of $20,000 was also imposed.

Before sentencing, McComb said he wanted to apologize to Allen County. McComb’s criminal history was also discussed, including multiple failure to comply, drug possession and trafficking charges in multiple counties in at least the last decade.

According to court records, McComb was part of an organized effort to bring large amounts of cocaine and methamphetamine to northwest Ohio.

Officers with the West Central Ohio Crime Task Force, in cooperation with the Ohio Safe Streets Task Force, on Oct. 26, 2023, determined that narcotics were being transported from Dayton to Lima, specifically to the Town Place Suites.

On that evening, investigators observed a red car, believed to be McComb’s, traveling down Leonard Avenue to the Town Place Suites without headlights. Police stopped the vehicle, and McComb was identified as the back-seat passenger in the car. He was ordered to exit the vehicle but failed to comply and was taken into custody by force.

In McComb’s possession at the time was a bag containing one kilogram of suspected cocaine and one pound of suspected methamphetamine. Also in the bag was a Ruger pistol.

Court records indicate FBI agents from Dayton interviewed McComb while he was in custody, at which time he admitted bringing the drugs to Lima to deliver to another individual.
