Woman killed in Mercer County single-vehicle crash

CELINA — A single-vehicle traffic accident Sunday evening in Mercer County claimed the life of a southern Ohio woman.

According to Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey, the crash was discovered at approximately 6:30 p.m. Sunday by a deputy on routine patrol in the area of state Route 49 and Koch Road. The investigation revealed that a 2017 Jeep Sport SUV driven by Jamie Teufel, 33, of Hamilton, traveled southbound on state Route 49 when it traveled left of center and off the side of the roadway for an unknown reason.

Teufel’s vehicle traveled through the east-side ditch for several feet before striking a culvert, causing the vehicle to go airborn. The vehicle continued southbound before striking a driveway entrance, causing the SUV to flip multiple times before it came to rest on the passenger side.

Teufel was transported by medical helicopter to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne but succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Assisting at the scene were members of the Chattanooga Fire Department, Celina EMS and MCERV. The crash remains under investigation.
