Lima man pleads guilty after shooting at man

LIMA — A Lima man pleaded guilty Thursday in Allen County Common Pleas Court after shooting at someone in June.

Dustin Jamison, 30, pleaded guilty to felonious assault, a second-degree felony. The second count he was indicted on of discharging a firearm on or near a prohibited premises, a third-degree felony, was dismissed, and the firearm specifications on both of the charges were dropped.

The prosecution had no recommendation on sentencing, and a pre-sentence investigation will be held before Judge Terri Kohlrieser sentences him Sept. 25. The charge could result in a non-mandatory sentence of two to eight years minimum up to a maximum of 12 years in prison and up to a $15,000 fine.

Kohlrieser modified Jamison’s bond from $100,000 to $50,000 cash, and he would be required to have an ankle monitor upon release.

Court documents said Lima police responded to the 300 block of South Cole Street on June 4 after Jamison shot at his girlfriend’s child’s father. Jamison said he felt threatened after a verbal argument with the child’s father because he reached toward his vehicle’s glove compartment, so he started shooting into the air and above the car. Police recovered a handgun from the front seat of Jamison’s vehicle, and four bullets matching the caliber of the gun were located in a lawn on South Cole Street.

Allen County Assistant Prosecutor Colleen Limerick said Jamison also had an AR-15 rifle that he left the scene with, and it was found buried at Faurot Park.
