Flares, noise expected as Lima refinery restarts units

LIMA — The Lima Cenovus Refinery alerted the public that there may be intermittent flaring and noise as the refinery restarts units this week.

The restart came after the units were shut down at the end of July due to an “issue” at one of the processing units. Details surrounding the issue were not disclosed, but the shutdown did cause higher flares than normal as product was burned off.

The refinery maintained there was no risk to the community during the shutdown. The flaring and noise is part of the normal restart process, as the refinery has made similar announcements for restarts in the past.
