ST. MARYS — National retailer Big Lots will close stores in St. Marys, Defiance and six other Ohio locations as the company attempts to get out from under a reported financial burden.
As of Aug. 2, Big Lots listed 1,389 stores nationwide on its website, but 289 of those are reportedly being closed down, according to the retailer’s website.
Other Ohio Big Lots stores to be closed are in Cincinnati, Dayton, Sandusky, Toledo and West Chester. A store in Fort Wayne, Indiana, is also on the closure list.
The Big Lots website does not list a closing date for the St. Marys, Defiance of other stores.
The company made the announcement of upcoming closures in a recent Securities and Exchange Commission filing. Specific locations were not identified at that time.
