Lima teen starts high-speed chase with stolen car

RICHLAND TOWNSHIP — The Ohio State Highway Patrol pursued a Lima teenager in a stolen car at high speeds on Interstate 75 on Thursday night before the teen crashed in the median.

According to a news release, at 11:55 p.m., a trooper identified a 2017 Chevrolet Impala traveling northbound on Interstate 75 which was reported stolen by the Lima Police Department. The trooper attempted a traffic stop but the driver, Ryan Aab, 16, of Lima, failed to stop, and a pursuit ensued.

Troopers attempted to stop the pursuit with stop-stick devices. The pursuit traveled about 11 miles before Aab rear-ended a truck driven by Terry Hopper, 47, of Knoxville, Tennessee, in Eagle Township, southwest of Findlay. Hopper pulled onto the shoulder, and Aab traveled into the median. The vehicle rolled over several times, coming to rest on its top.

Aab was taken to Blanchard Valley Hospital in Findlay with suspected minor injuries. The four passengers in Hopper’s vehicle had no injuries. All occupants in both vehicles were wearing seatbelts. Alcohol or drugs are not suspected to be a factor in the incident.

After receiving medical attention, Aab was taken to the Allen County Juvenile Detention Center, and potential charges will be reviewed by the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office.
