Tipp City woman dies in crash in Auglaize County

ST. MARYS TOWNSHIP — A Tipp City woman died Wednesday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash after she apparently failed to yield at a stop sign.

Theresa L. Bachelor, 75, of Tipp City, was pronounced dead at Joint Township Memorial Hospital from the injuries she suffered, according to a press release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Wapakoneta post.

According to the highway patrol, the accident occurred at 12:02 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of state Route 364 at Southland Road.

Bachelor, driving a 2020 Ford Escape, traveled westbound on Southland Road. The investigation showed Bachelor’s Ford failed to yield from the stop sign and was struck by a 2019 Toyota Avalon, driven by Ayodeji A. Opadeyi, 41, of Sidney, that traveled northbound on state Route 364.

After the collision, both vehicles slid off the west side of state Route 364. Bachelor’s Ford struck a fence and a tree, while Opadeyi’s Toyota struck a fence and a house.

Both drivers suffered injuries in the crash and were initially transported to the hospital. Both drivers wore safety belts at the time of the crash. Alcohol and drugs aren’t suspected in the crash, which remains under investigation.

Assisting at the scene were the Ohio State Highway Patrol Crash Reconstruction Unit, Ohio Department of Transportation, St. Marys Township Fire Department, City of St. Marys EMS and Auglaize County CERT.
