Suppression of statements sought by stabbing suspect

LIMA — A video of the police interview of a Mansfield suspect charged in connection with a stabbing in Lima in March was submitted to Allen County Common Pleas Court Judge Terri Kohlrieser on Thursday as part of a motion to suppress statements made during that interrogation.

Rocky Hayner, 30, who is transitioning from male to female and has asked the court to be addressed as “Paris,” was indicted in April on one count of aggravated burglary, a first-degree felony, and two counts of felonious assault, second-degree felonies, for a stabbing that occurred at 1508 E. Fourth St., Lima, on March 5.

On that day, Lima police officers found a man at the house who had multiple stab wounds. The victim was transported to a hospital and listed in serious but stable condition. He told officers he had been in an argument with a white male he knows as Paris and that Paris stabbed him and fled.

A short time later, an individual walking along Fourth Street near the scene of the stabbing was stopped by police. The person had dried blood on their nose and forehead, and their boots were saturated with blood, water and urine, according to court records.

The person, later identified as Hayner, was taken into custody. Police later learned that Hayner goes by the name Paris Sheka. According to court records, the defendant admitted to investigators they had stabbed the alleged victim two times.

A final pretrial hearing is set for 1 p.m. Aug. 22, and a jury trial is scheduled for 8:45 a.m. Sept. 23.
