Tuesday afternoon fire destroys Amanda Township barn

AMERICAN TOWNSHIP – Firefighters from six area departments battled a barn fire Tuesday afternoon west of Lima that ultimately left the structure completely destroyed.

According to Doug Lowry, chief of Spencerville’s Invincible Fire Company, his department received a call at 3 p.m. Tuesday of a fire at 890 S. Grubb Road in Amanda Township. Lowry said the structure was completely engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.

Units from the American Township Fire Department, as well as additional departments from Cridersville, Buckland, Delphos and Shawnee, also responded to the fire.

Lowry said the cause of the blaze has not yet been determined. He had no estimate on the financial loss caused by the fire.

The structure was owned by Robin and Shari Waltz, who used it for general storage. No livestock or other animals were involved, and no firefighters were injured while battling the fire.
