Bond reduced for Lima man accused of fentanyl trafficking

LIMA — A Lima man’s attorney withdrew a motion to suppress, and the man’s bond was reduced Thursday for charges of fentanyl trafficking in the Allen County Common Pleas Court.

Seyoum Lawrence’s attorney, Allison Hibbard, filed a motion to suppress on May 2 because she said the search warrant on Oct. 26, 2023, for Lawrence’s residence at 3117 Pocahontas Trail, Lima, was invalid due to the affidavit lacking probable cause.

Judge Jeffrey Reed also reduced Lawrence’s bond from $250,000 to $150,000. Reed denied a bond reduction a few months prior.

Lawrence, 29, was indicted by a grand jury in January on four counts of trafficking in a fentanyl-related compound, possession of a fentanyl-related compound, having weapons under disability and engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity. Specifications related to the charges label Lawrence a major drug offender and call for the forfeiture of weapons, a vehicle, money and property.

Allen County Prosecuting Attorney Destiny Caldwell said during a previous hearing Lawrence was found to be in the possession of 255 grams of fentanyl at the time of his arrest. Lawrence faces a possible maximum prison sentence of 51 years.
