St. Marys man’s bond remains the same on sex charges

WAPAKONETA — Auglaize County Common Pleas Court Judge Frederick Pepple ruled that a St. Marys man’s bond be kept the same Wednesday after the man’s attorney filed a motion to modify the bond.

Matthew Storer, 37, was indicted on two counts of sexual battery and three counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor for events that occurred in 2018, 2021 and 2023. He is currently in the Auglaize County Jail with a $350,000 bond.

Storer’s attorney requested Storer be put on house arrest and live with his mother. The state’s attorneys wanted the bond to remain the same and argued Storer was a flight risk because he sold his house and was going to move to Florida around the time the accusations were made. They also said at one point Storer became suicidal and was unable to be located except by tracking his phone. The state also pointed out that the most recent incident was about seven months ago.

The court scheduled another hearing for the case on July 23 with a final pretrial hearing on Aug. 2 and a jury trial beginning Aug. 21.
