Farmers Market adjusting to new location

LIMA — Leslie Jenkins said going to the Lima Farmers Market on Cable Road is much more convenient than it used to be.

The market moved to the parking lot of the UNOH Racers Station in June (bit.ly/4bAnzr9) and sets up every Saturday until September.

“I love it,” Jenkins said. “It’s a chance to get fresh vegetables and they always have something that you might not see somewhere else.”

Market manager Madalyn Downing said the move has worked out great so far.

“We’ve seen a really big increase on the impact of our market as we’ve moved out here,” she said. “The numbers of people coming through the market has really increased and it’s becoming a lot more of a community event. People are pleased to see that change.”

Downing said at the start of the season she expected the change to be a great fit for vendors and the students who help to manage the market.

So far that expectation appears to be coming to fruition.

“We’re seeing a lot more people interested in being a part of the market,” she said. “They’re seeing the impact it’s having on the community, the support that is coming out for us and they’re bringing their best parts, as well. We’ve seen vendors and the community pleased with the location.”

For people like Jenkins, taking advantage of the good weather and convenient location provides a good opportunity to see variety.

“It’s much more convenient here,” she said. “I’m just glad that there are things like this for us to be able to do.”

The Lima Farmers Market accepts payment through cash, EBT, senior coupons and credit.

It also sits along an RTA route, which is free Saturdays.
