OVI checkpoint near Wapakoneta results in one arrest

WAPAKONETA — An Ohio State Highway Patrol OVI checkpoint Friday near Wapakoneta led to one arrest, according to a release from the Highway Patrol.

The federally funded checkpoint was held Friday on county Road 25A north of Wapakoneta. In total, 192 vehicles were checked during the event, with two vehicles diverted for further assessment of the driver. One of those drivers was arrested for operating a vehicle while impaired, according to the release. The identity of the driver was not revealed.

The Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office and the Wapakoneta Police Department also participated in the checkpoint, the Highway Patrol said in the release. Checkpoints are designed to discourage impaired driving, which can lead to crashes that can result in severe injury or death.
