OVI checkpoint planned Friday near Wapakoneta

WAPKONETA — The Ohio State Highway Patrol will conduct an OVI checkpoint from 7 to 9 p.m. Friay on county Road 25A in Auglaize County.

Assisting agencies will be the Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office, the Wapakoneta Police Department and the Ohio Department of Transportation.

There will also be saturation patrols to combat impaired driver-related injury and fatal crashes. The checkpoints are funded by federal grant funds.

According to a State Highway Patrol news release, in 2023 there were 11,324 OVI-related crashes in which 725 people were killed on Ohio’s roadways. State troopers make an average of 15,000 OVI arrests each year.
