Lima man in custody after Faurot Park shooting incident

LIMA — A Lima man is in custody after a shooting incident Friday at Faurot Park.

According to a release from the Lima Police Department, just before noon, the department was notified of an argument taking place in Faurot Park near the intersection of Cole Street and North Shore Drive. One of the individuals had a gun and was pointing it at the others involved in the argument, officers were told.

While police were traveling to the park, the individual fired the gun, shooting one of the individuals in the leg, according to the release. Officers arrived almost immediately after the shooting and took the person with the gun, identified as Anthonio “Tony” Briggs, 37, of Lima into custody. De’Marion Gibson, 20, of Lima was transported to Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. After speaking to a detective, Briggs was transported to the Allen County jail on suspicion of felonious assault.

According to the release, everyone involved in the incident knew each other and were at the park for a small family function.
