Canton man dies after three-vehicle crash

BLANCHARD TOWNSHIP — One person has died after a three-vehicle crash Monday at the intersection of state Route 235 and County Road 86 in Blanchard Township.

Ralph Charles Steigerwald, 26, of Canton, was traveling westbound on County Road 86. William Melvin Foster, 69, of Findlay, was traveling southbound on state Route 235. Lara E. Solt, 55, of St. Louis, Missouri, was stopped at the intersection facing eastbound. Steigerwald failed to stop at the stop sign and was struck by Foster. As a result of the collision, Steigerwald spun and struck the front of Solt’s vehicle, causing Solt to spin the opposite direction.

A crash report from the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office estimated Steigerwald was traveling at 70 mph in a 55 mph zone.

Steigerwald was air lifted to ProMedica and he died from his injuries. Solt, Solt’s child passenger, and Foster’s passenger, Zeda K. Foster, 74, of Findlay, were taken by Hanco EMS to Blanchard Valley Hospital with suspected minor injuries.

All vehicles were towed with disabling damage.
