Unemployment rates down in Lima region

LIMA — Unemployment rates around the region declined in April, as more people found jobs, according to statistics released Tuesday by the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services.

The unemployment rate in Allen County was 4.3% in April, down 0.2 percentage points compared to March’s rate. At the same time, there were 100 more people employed and 100 fewer people unemployed, while the labor force remained steady.

There were 2,395 jobs listed within 10 miles of downtown Lima on Tuesday afternoon, according to OhioMeansJobs.com.

The rates also went down in Auglaize County (down 0.2 percentage points to 3.5%), Hardin County (down 0.3 percentage points to 4.5%), Putnam County (down 0.1 percentage point, to 3.3%) and Van Wert County (down 0.3 percentage points, to 3.3%).

Mercer County had the lowest unemployment rate in the state, at 2.7%. Auglaize, Putnam and Van Wert counties each tied for the fourth-lowest unemployment rate.
