LCC begins initiative to support parks

LIMA — Although winter is around the corner, local organizations are preparing for what is to come in the warmer seasons. Lima Central Catholic High School announced an initiative to fundraise for the city of Lima’s Park, Recreation and Forestry Department at the Mayor’s Press Conference Wednesday morning.

“We are excited to be here today and to announce a new initiative the Lima Catholic community is doing,” LCC Director of Enhancement Kayla Nocera Zehery said. “We are going to be hosting this is the first inaugural year for the Winter Kids Raffle.”

Zehery said the raffle will take place on April 27 but tickets are available now for purchase.

“They are $100 raffle tickets,” she said. “We are only selling 4,500 of them. We are giving away 117 prizes totaling over $337,000.”

Zehery also said the prizes include cash prizes of up to $20,000 and two new cars. Deputy Public Works Director Ric Stolly said the $45,000 donation from the fundraiser will go directly toward the Lima Aquatic Center.

”We met up with Lima Central Catholic and Kayla about what they are going to do as part of this pool this vision we have for the community,” Stolly said. “Life is a participation sport. You do not sit on the sidelines and just watch it. You’ve got to get involved in getting engaged. You’ve got to be a part, especially if you want to affect change.”

Zehery also said the goal is to make the new fundraiser an annual event to continue to give back to the community and kids.

“This is about community,” Lima Mayor Sharetta Smith said. “We are trying to embark on with the building of the new pool, our expanded parks, programming, and all of the investments that we have coming down the pike to improve the quality of life.”
