Shellenbarger trial set for April

LIMA — A jury trial for former Shawnee Township detective Jeremy Shellenbarger will be held on April 9, 2024, in Allen County Common Pleas Court.

Special prosecutor Eva Yarger and defense attorney Zachary Maisch held a phone conference with Judge Jeffrey Reed Thursday, during which both parties agreed to the April 9 trial date and a second pre-trial hearing on Dec. 21.

Shellenbarger resigned from the Shawnee Township Police Department in September after he was indicted on two counts of illegal use of a minor or impaired person in nudity-oriented material, each fifth-degree felonies, as well as two fourth-degree felony counts of pandering sexually-oriented matter of a minor or impaired person.

The alleged incident occurred on or about Sept. 12, 2022, according to the indictment.

In addition to his work as a detective for the Shawnee Township Police Department, Shellenbarger previously served as a school resource officer for Apollo Career Center.
