LIMA — The Lima Police Department has introduced a new security camera database program. The department is partnering with community members who register to utilize personal and business cameras to aid in catching criminal activity.
“We are starting a security camera database,” Lt. Matt Douglass said. “It is a program many departments around the country have instituted. (Community members) can register either their personal or business camera systems with the line of the police department.”
According to a recent press release, following the occurrence of a crime, the department will analyze who has cameras in the area and contact that person. The department will then request footage from the resident’s camera.
Douglass also said the application to join the program is online.
