LIMA — The Lima Police Department will purchase a new drone to aid in their duties. The Fraternal Order of Eagles #370 donated $3,000 to help with the new drone.
According to a recent press release, the new drone will help with missing persons and provide increased safety at events.
“We are working on a drone we hope to use for search and rescue,” LPD Major John Bishop said. “It is a drone multiplier. It gets eyes in the sky — It will also be useful when we have large events.”
The local Eagles donated has more than $200,000 to local charities. The Eagles said this year the organization will surpass $500,000 in donations.
“The donation is very important to us,” Vice President Jim Fair said. “We are proud to do it for our first responders in the county. When that bell rings, they are the ones that go. It helps keep Lima safe and the rest of the county.”
