Rodeo to bust through gates of Allen County Fairgrounds on Saturday

LIMA — The Stampede Rodeo will bring western cowboy thrills back to the Allen County Fairgrounds this Saturday, July 29 starting at 7 p.m. and there are plenty of attractions to keep the whole family entertained.

The rodeo will feature steer wrestling, bronco riding, barrel races, breakaway roping and bull riding and promoters are excited to see the event come to town.

“This actually is not the first time we’ve had a rodeo before, but we haven’t had a rodeo here in the last couple of years,” Promotions and Operations Manager of the Allen County Fairgrounds Troy Elwer said. “But we were pretty excited to get one locked down to come back to the fairgrounds because it seems that every time we have a rodeo out here it’s a very highly attended event. I strongly encourage anyone that’s interested in going to the event to hop online and buy their tickets early because there might not be any left.”

Promoter Chad Mullins said that for just $16, the two-and-a-half hours worth of entertainment is hard to beat.

“I’m not a rodeo person or a horse person, but it’s going to be a very good time with a lot of excitement,” he said. “It’s kind of like automobile racing and rooting for your favorite people. We’re also going to have a meet and greet before the event starts at about 5:30, where if you bought tickets you can come down and meet some of the contestants that will be performing and get your picture taken with them.”

And the rodeo will be preceded by another special event taking place throughout the day: a food truck rally.

“What’s really neat about the rally is that you actually don’t even need a ticket to the rodeo to attend,” Elwer said. “If you’re just in the general public and want to enjoy some different types of food, whether it’s barbecue or anything else, there will be a pretty diverse set of trucks from noon to 7 p.m. right up to the start of the rodeo. I think it’s a unique and cool addition that will definitely draw a nice crowd out here.”

But when the main event starts, Elwer said that he expects people under the roof of the Horse Pavilion to be awed by the stunts and competition.

“It’s a thrilling event,” he said. “It’s exciting and it definitely keeps you on the edge of your seat. I’ve been to a couple of rodeos before and even a couple out here that have been going on in the past and these guys are certainly putting their lives at risk and on the line to hop on these animals, but it’s certainly a pretty unique and cool opportunity and it’s a good chance for the family to spend time together for a night out at the fairgrounds.”
