Christmas in July to return to The Meeting Place

LIMA —The Meeting Place on Market is preparing for the return of a special event this Friday to spread some holiday cheer ahead of the dog days of summer.

Christmas in July will turn The Meeting Place into Santa’s Workshop for the third year from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. complete with kids activities like ornament making, carol singing and photos with an elf, as well as Christmas-themed drinks and baked goods for sale.

“One of our bakers that we had a few years ago, named Andrea said that she wanted an excuse to make Christmas cookies so we said, ‘Let’s do that,’” said Jennifer Brogee, owner of The Meeting Place. “There will be free samples of coffee and bakery items and someone coming to do cookie decorating and just various activities going on throughout the day.”

Brogee said that it is nice to see customers enjoying the event.

“I think it’s so fun to see all the kids come out and I also love seeing adults making Christmas ornaments and having fun as well,” she said. “That’s my favorite part, watching everyone just getting into the holiday spirit and taking time to relax and do fun things.”

The day will even see live music at the coffee shop.

“If you love peppermint mocha and candy or cocoa and you even enjoy a festive atmosphere, then come on out,” Brogee added. “It’s always a fun time to sit and just relax with a cup of coffee and listen to the music or bring the kids out to have them participate.”

And Brogee added that it is a good opportunity for the community to bond beyond that.

“It’s fun to be with other members of the community to relax and benefit from what the community has to share,” she said. “KISS FM, Mercy Health and the Lima Public Library are some of the organizations coming out and I just like seeing all the different entities coming together and people sharing their talents. So it’s just fun that it’s a community effort.”
