Spencerville residents enjoy Summerfest

SPENCERVILLE — Spencerville celebrated the final day of its annual Summerfest on Saturday, drawing people from throughout the area.

Residents and newcomers enjoyed a car show, a craft show, food vendors, a carnival, games and entertainment throughout the day, including a parade and fireworks to end the night.

“My coworker told me about the festival and the fireworks and the parade, so I brought the kids down here,” said Kylee Bailey, of Lima. “I think it’s really nice out here. It was really fun to bring the kids and the family to see the fireworks and the parade.”

And for the usuals, the fest never gets old.

“We come every year, and my daughter really likes the rides and the parade is one of the big attractions,” said Natalie Stuttler, of Spencerville. “We love it. It’s just that it’s my hometown and it’s nice to see the community coming together, as well as people from out of town getting to know our community.”

Curt Moore, of Elida, said that it was a good opportunity to bring the grandkids out and visit with other family members.

“My kids are grown, so it’s all about the grandkids,” he said. “They love the snowcones and snacks and rides. We’re going to have a cookout later and watch the fireworks.”

Bailey said that even though the event was outside of Lima, it was nice to be able to take advantage of it.

“It’s just nice to have something to do around the community, even though it’s outside of the city,” she said. “And it’s very affordable.”

And the fireworks, which do not start until 10 p.m. should be well worth the wait.

“It’s one of the best fireworks shows in the area,” Stuttler said.

Spencerville Summerfest began Wednesday with the Miss Firecracker Pageant and continued with a tractor pull Thursday and the start of the regular fest activities Friday.
