LIMA — She achieved her five-year goal. Now Aleesa Baker hopes she can help you achieve your goal of feeling better through massage.
Baker celebrated the grand opening of Massage Lux, 617 N. Jameson Ave., Lima, on Thursday morning with a ribbon-cutting with the Lima/Allen County Chamber of Commerce.
“We actually did a project in school where we had to do a five-year goal — some short-term goals and then the long-term goal,” Baker said. “This year is my five years, and my goal was to be a sole proprietor of a business. That goes to say a lot about goal-writing and being dedicated like that.”
Baker, a licensed massage therapist, offers massage services at the location. People can call for an appointment at 419-236-3077.
“I truly believe in the benefits of natural healing,” Baker said. “I am a very sociable person, and I like to heal.”
The 2016 graduate of Lima Senior and graduate of Apollo Career Center’s medical massage program plans to add some products for sale. She has a spot set aside for applying nails and makeup next year, after she finishes schooling for those areas.
She said she’s anxious for potential clients to see Massage Lux, near the intersection of Jameson and Rice avenues. Her husband, Ian Baker, who owns a remodeling business, updated the flooring in parts of the building.
“This spot is absolutely perfect,” she said. “Honestly, it was just meant to be.”
She said her favorite room in Massage Lux is the treatment room.
“I think trying to add all of the senses is very important — sight, smell, feel, sound,” she said. “It’s just kind of indulging in the relaxation and trying to get away from the busy world.”
She knows plenty about that busy world, between her schooling, her marriage and raising two toddlers. She had her children, who were at the grand opening, in mind when she decided to open the business.
“It’s the woman empowerment of being a woman-owned business,” she said. “It’s also just putting an example forth for my kids about entrepreneurship and being able to kind of do your own thing and being able to prosper in that way.”
