LSO to bring ‘Music of John Williams’ to stage

LIMA — The last show of the season for the Lima Symphony Orchestra will feature music from one of Hollywood’s most famous composers.

“The Music of John Williams” will take the stage at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Veterans Memorial Civic Center, and symphony executive director Elizabeth Brown-Ellis said that it should be magical.

“What can you not be excited about with the music of John Williams?” she said. “It’s such iconic American music that we all know from his 60 years of composing film scores, and I think there have been studies that show that if you take away the music, the film falls flat. This is going to be truly just a wonderful showcase of some of the best film scores in his incredible career.”

The composer, famous for creating the scores to “Star Wars”, “Indiana Jones” and “Harry Potter” among many others, is well-known and well-regarded for creating some of the most-recognizable leitmotifs in cinematic history.

“I think one of the things that makes it special is that people will know the music and we usually try to program something that is familiar and something that is a little more unknown so that people are getting a really robust experience,” Brown-Ellis said. “But this time, it will be all music that people know and love so that’s fun for us to put that together. The orchestra is meeting this week and had their first rehearsal on Wednesday.”

Brown-Ellis also said that the Lima Symphony Chorus would be performing for the show, which is significant as it is their third concert of the year.

“I just think that this is going to be a great fun evening out and I think it’s a program that you can take your children and parents to and all generations are going to know this music and love it,” she added. “It will be a great concert for people who maybe aren’t as familiar with a symphony because there will be music that we know and the pieces are much shorter than sitting through an entire four-movement symphony. So this is a great beginning concert to just hear how powerful live music can be.”

Anyone interested in the future of the orchestra will be excited to know that, even though the season is ending, there will be a preview of the next one.
