Easter egg events happening throughout the region this weekend

LIMA — Several egg hunts are coming up for the weekend of Easter Sunday around the area.

Among them are the rescheduled iHeart Media event, Trinity United Methodist Church’s hunt on Saturday and St. Paul’s Church in Ada on Friday.

“I think it’s important for the community to understand that Trinity is downtown in the city of Lima and that we’re here to serve all people and not just our congregation, but people from all walks of life, no matter where they are on their spiritual journey,” Kyle Ley, Director of Student and Family Ministries at Trinity United Methodist, said. “This is just a great opportunity for families, especially ones with younger kids to get together and see the easter bunny on Saturday morning.”

The Trinity hunt will begin at 11:30 a.m. Saturday with a meeting at the church’s fellowship hall with snacks and refreshments. At noon, the hunt will begin at Trinity Park in Lima and will see children ages two to 10 looking for over 700 filled Easter Eggs.

“Obviously the hunt shouldn’t last long based on the amount that we’ve had in the past,” Ley said. “But we do it every year and if the weather is bad or muddy, we will hide the eggs inside the church.”

While St. Paul’s will hide eggs for a hunt at 2 p.m. for children up to age 12 Friday afternoon, iHeart Media will wait for Saturday for the hunt that will be held at Spartan Stadium in Lima.

The hunt was meant to take place March 18, but had to be rescheduled due to snow. That hunt will begin at 11 a.m. and will see children in different age groups looking for 20,000 eggs. A trip to Walt Disney World will also be among the prizes offered.

“It’s great for iHeart Radio and Lima,” iHeart Media Senior VP of Programming JB Webb said in advance of the first scheduled date. “We’re excited to be able to facilitate this free event for families.”

Lima Sixth Ward Council member Derry Glenn will also host his annual Easter egg hunt at noon Saturday at Hover Park in Lima.

The Lima Mall is also welcoming families to get their pictures taken with the Easter Bunny up to Saturday.
