Lima cheapest Ohio city for date nights

LIMA — With Valentine’s Day here during a time of increasing prices, many couples may be searching for affordable date-night options.

According to research from Bet Ohio, Lima is overall the cheapest city in the state for date nights, with the total cost estimated to be about $46.38 for two people. This price includes a meal, a bottle of wine and a three-mile cab ride.

Betsy Billingsley, executive director of Downtown Lima, Inc., said the city is likely so affordable for date nights due to the low cost of living — 15.1% lower than the national average — despite rising food costs. She said although the city is more expensive than in years past, it is still quite affordable.

Billingsley said there are several options for couples or groups of friends to celebrate Valentine’s Day in Lima.

She said ArtSpace/Lima is showing the work of its annual photography contest winners. It will open at 10 a.m. and close at 5 p.m.

Billingsley said reservations are required at many date-night destinations, such as The Hollander on Main and Old City Prime. The Met will hold a wine tasting with a three-course dinner for $60 per person. Reservations are required for the event and for non-event dinner.

According to Visit Greater Lima, Milano cafe, Zinum 12, Old City Prime, Mara’s Gourmet and a Valentine’s Day party at The Moose Lodge will also have wine and dining opportunities on Tuesday.

Billingsley said The Meeting Place on Market is offering a couple’s coffee date kit, which can be picked up to brew a cup at home and enjoy with a dessert from another local restaurant. Billingsley said she would recommend picking up a cheesecake from Purple Feet Wine Boutique.

Anyone who procrastinated on buying flowers or other Valentine’s Day gifts can stop at Town & Country Flowers on Tuesday, Billinglsey said.

“I think it’s just a great day to try something new, and also enjoy a little time as a couple or even just as friends,” Billingsley said.
