Council: Schulte a huge part of Lima

LIMA — City Council met Monday evening to memorialize Robert Schulte, a member of the Delphos and Lima community. Council also approved multiple ordinances regarding replacing Lima’s gazebo, approving the finance director’s salary and entering into a contract with Infinite Protection LTD.

According to the resolution, Robert ‘Bob’ Schulte was an outstanding citizen who served in the U.S. Army during the Korean war. He received the Pope Leo XIII award and won the L.E. Dettman Founders Award alongside his wife Grace. He also served in organizations such as Lima Chamber, where he was a board member and president, and the West Central Regional Development Board.

Schulte was also an Allen County Visionaries board member and president, and he served with the Ohio Association of Personnel Consultants. Council extended its deepest regard to the family of Robert Schulte.

“To the Schulte family, it is hard for me to say Bob without saying Bob and Grace,” said council member Peggy Ehora. “For me, Bob and Grace were just a force to be reckoned with in our community. If someone needed to raise a hand and do it, they did it. They were just a huge part of our community.

“Even being Delphos folks, you would have never known. They were Lima folks to all of us because that is where their hearts were for a very long time in their careers. To all of you, I am sorry about your dad and mom. It leaves a huge hole in your heart and leaves a huge hole in our community.”

An ordinance was approved for the mayor of Lima to apply and accept the T-Mobile Hometown Grant to replace downtown Lima’s gabezo at a cost of around $50,000. T-Mobile committed to donating $25 million for community projects over the next five years. The grant application will be prepared by Downtown Lima Inc.

The official salary for the Deputy Finance Director was approved at $80,000. The Council also approved the Lima Police Department and the City of Lima to enter into a contract with Infinite Protection LTD. The purchase iCYPHER Mobile Scout Commander will cost $55,265.38. It will support the department for three years.

Council member Jon Neeper wrapped up the council meeting with a reminder to its members to visit the fair.

“I had the privilege to be at the fair the last two nights,” said Neeper. “I want to remind everyone that it is going on. Go out and enjoy yourself and enjoy the fair food from your local vendors.”
