This week’s updates on the coronavirus pandemic

Community risk elevated to ‘medium’

• The rate of new coronavirus cases and hospital admissions for COVID-19 in the Lima region has led the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to upgrade the region’s COVID-19 risk level to medium, during which those at high risk for severe illness are encouraged to wear masks in public indoor settings.

The new risk level first took effect last week.

In the last seven days, CDC data show there have been 10.3 new hospital admissions for COVID-19 illness per 100,000 people. Patients with COVID-19 now account for 1.6% of staffed inpatient beds as of Thursday evening.

Residents are encouraged to stay up to date with their vaccinations, including booster doses when eligible.
